About
Christina Manceor is a percussionist, educator, and arts administrator with diverse musical interests. Currently based in the Baltimore area, she works at the Peabody Conservatory as Assistant Director of the LAUNCHPad career services office, and serves as adjunct faculty for Peabody's innovative Breakthrough Curriculum. She also performs as a freelance musician, pursuing artistic collaborations in chamber music, world music, orchestra, jazz, and improvisation.
Christina is a member of Duo Sila, a flute and percussion ensemble, and The Kris Johnson Group, a jazz/funk/soul fusion band based in Detroit. She has also performed in the musical theatre production The Music Man, the opera The Mikado, the jazz musical Jim Crow’s Tears, and with the Symphony of the Lakes (Warsaw, IN) and Life Sciences Orchestra (Ann Arbor, MI). As a soloist, she is the winner of the 2015 PAS/Armand Zildjian Percussion Scholarship, as well as the 2013 Black Swamp Solo Multi-Percussion Competition. |
Christina has extensive experience in performing arts management, having previously served as Managing Director of Community Concerts at Second, and co-founded a cross-genre and cross-disciplinary concert series with two colleagues in 2017. Additionally, she has directed her own performance projects, including Love Beats Rain, a chamber opera by J. Clay Gonzalaz, and a collaborative dance and percussion performance of Derek Bermel’s improvisation-based piece, Orbit Design. Through a combination of her performance and entrepreneurial skills, Christina is able to create compelling collaborations in unexpected spaces, and she is always searching for unique ways to bring the artistic and emotional journey to new audiences.
As an educator passionate about helping musicians further their careers, Christina enjoys teaching both artistic and arts management-related skills. In addition to her role as adjunct faculty for Peabody's Breakthrough Curriculum, she is a career coach for the conservatory's LAUNCHPad career services office. Furthermore, her experience in music education spans almost a decade of private instruction in classical percussion, marching percussion, drumset, and jazz improvisation, and she has regularly taught as drumline staff for the Troy High School Marching Band in Michigan.
Christina earned her B.M. in Percussion Performance with a minor in Performing Arts Management at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, studying with Joseph Gramley and Jonathan Ovalle, and completed her M.M. in Percussion Performance at the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University, studying with Robert Van Sice.
