About
Christina Manceor is a percussionist, career educator, and entrepreneur who integrates problem solving and collaboration to enhance and innovate experiences for students, audiences, and arts organizations. Currently, she works at the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University as Assistant Director of the LAUNCHPad career services office, and serves as adjunct Professional Studies faculty for Peabody's innovative Breakthrough Curriculum. She also freelances throughout the Baltimore area, pursuing artistic collaborations in chamber music, world music, orchestra, jazz, and improvisation.
As a percussionist, Christina is co-founder of Duo Sila, an inventive flute and percussion duo, and also performs with the samba band Bateria Terra Maria and the Kris Johnson Group, a jazz/funk/soul fusion band based in Detroit. Across her artistic work, Christina seeks to fuse ideas from different genres and traditions to experience music in new ways. Some past freelance performance highlights include the musical theatre production The Music Man, the opera The Mikado, the jazz musical Jim Crow’s Tears, and performances with Symphony No. 1 and Mind on Fire (Baltimore, MD), and the Symphony of the Lakes (Warsaw, IN). As a soloist, she is the winner of the PAS/Armand Zildjian Percussion Scholarship, as well as the Black Swamp Solo Multi-Percussion Competition.
An educator passionate about helping emerging artists further their careers, Christina enjoys teaching both artistic and professional skills. In addition to her work designing and teaching Professional Studies courses at Peabody, she is a career coach at the conservatory and manages experiential learning programs, grants, and other resources for students and alumni. She was previously percussion faculty at Mount St. Mary's University, and her experience in music education spans over a decade of private instruction in classical percussion, marching percussion, drumset, and jazz improvisation.
Christina’s extensive background in performing arts management informs her work as both a performer and educator, having previously served as Managing Director of Community Concerts at Second, and co-founded a cross-genre and cross-disciplinary concert series in Baltimore City. Additionally, she has directed independent performance projects, including Love Beats Rain, a chamber opera by J. Clay Gonzalaz, and a collaborative dance and percussion performance of Derek Bermel’s improvisation-based piece, Orbit Design. Using her unique combination of skills, Christina enjoys creating compelling collaborations in unexpected spaces, and she is always searching for unique ways to bring the artistic process to new audiences.
Christina completed an EdD at the Johns Hopkins University School of Education, specializing in Entrepreneurial Leadership in Education. She earned her MM in Percussion Performance at the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University, studying with Robert Van Sice, and complete a BM in Percussion Performance with a minor in Performing Arts Management at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, studying with Joseph Gramley and Jonathan Ovalle.
